What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a technique of applying gentle pressure to reflexes on the feet or hands to bring about a state of relaxation and to stimulate the body’s own healing processes. This treatment can facilitate vital energy, help boost the immune system and create a stronger body and calmer mind.
There theory behind reflexology is that the organs, glands and other parts of the body are connected to reflex areas or reflex points of the feet and hands. These areas are found on the soles of the feet and the palms of the hands. as well as on the top and sides of the feet and hands. By stimulating the areas using the compression technique and a form of massage using thumbs, fingers and hands you can create a direct response in a specific body area. The right foot represents the right hand side of the body and the left representing the left side and by practitioners observing Zone therapy whereby the foot is divided into 10 zones. Practitioners prefer working on the feet rather than the hands as they feel this is more responsive due to the larger area the practitioner has to work on and the reflexes are easier to identify and generally the feet are more sensitive to treatment.

Reflexology is used to achieve balance and harmony and a sense of well-being in the body and mind. If we are occasionally feeling out of kilter, our body yearns for balance to enable it to work healthly. Reflexology facilitates the healing of the body. It is not there to diagnose nor to work as a medical treatment, neither does it cure – only the body can do that.
